2024 Colouring Pages
In 2024, UCC Library published a themed colouring book using images from the online exhibition Our Evolving Relationship with Life Below Water created by Elaine Harrington & John Rooney in partnership with students Tadhg Dennehy & Katie McShane.
This online exhibition links to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water. The goal of SDG 14 is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. As an island nation, our history and our heritage has been shaped by the sea and the great Irish rivers, lakes and wetlands. The exhibition explores the worlds of mapmakers, artists, conservation experts, biologists and writers responding to the theme of ‘Life Below Water’ with a specific focus on the marine conservation area of Lough Hyne. In addition, Life on Land: Birds & Trees from the 17th to 21st Centuries links to UCC’s Sustainable Development Goal Toolkit and UCC’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan: Securing Our Future. Through events and exhibitions such as Our Evolving Relationship with Life Below Water we increase the likelihood of reaching:
- Target 4.7: By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles,
- Target 12.2: By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
The colouring book and exhibition are one example of how we demonstrate the continuing relevance of historical printed sources in UCC Library’s Special Collections to modern research and global challenges.
