Assessment context: Group presentations

For the 2021/22 cohort, the PG Diploma in Innovation through Design Thinking Students were asked to work in teams and use design thinking to solve the following challenge:

For the 2020/21 cohort the students were asked to work in teams and use design thinking to solve this challenge:

How might we develop the Makerspace at UCC? 

Assessment Task

For the presentation assessment task, students were required to:

  • Pitch their team’s solution, in a pre-recorded video, consisting of 3-5 minutes, to the design challenge to the Dragon’s Den in the Design Event.
  • Present the design journey for the team in a compelling, logical and coherent manner
  • Refer to each stage of the design process and key iteration points (Understand, Observe, Point of View, Ideate, Prototype and Test).
  • Highlight application of the DLiteracies of design, data and digital during the design process.

(a) 1500 words (excluding references)

(b) Multimedia

(c) All external sources of information must be referenced

As you watch the student pitches,

As you watch these pitch examples, look back at the rubric and the assessment requirements. Ask yourself the following as you consider the two examples:

  • How does the team evidence ethos, logos and pathos?
  • Where do you see evidence of all group members contributing to the work?
  • What can you learn about the overall application of design thinking from these examples?
